External GPU diminishing returns on new imac (2017)

Hello
I ordered the i5 model with radeon 580 27 inch.
If i connect an external gpu while being in windows bootcamp, will i get a big performance drop while using the imac internal displau? Same as i saw on other youtube videos where they connected a laptop withan external gpu?
