External GPU - Driving iMac Screen?

Hi all,

Is this possible? I have a late 2012 iMac as well as a gtx 1080 and wanted to use it with the iMac. But I can only get it to work with an external screen. Is there a way (hack?) to get it working (thinking more under windows 10 than MAC). Thought I’d check before I bought a monitor.
