I've just switched and my iMac won't read all of the NTFS external disc I used with my windows laptop. It sees some of the folders on the drive but not the one with my music in it.

Also - is it possible for it to detect the drive without me restarting everytime? It won't see the disc when I plug in, but if I restart it detects it.

Any help much appreciated.

Could it be that you have NTFS permissions that are still lingering on the external drive? Try using the windows laptop to set persmissions to everyone full control and make sure that the options to apply down thru all subfolders is selected. Good Luck

There is also an option in the mac where you "get info" (right click or control click) on your external hard drive and tell it to ignore permissions.
I don't know if the ignore permissions works only on OSX permissions or Windows permissions, but that's something to try.
If not, connect it to the Windows machine, and give "everyone" full access to the external hard drive under (folder) or drive, properties > security.

Sorted...

Thanks for the advice guys. I fixed it by moving the music files to the root of the drive and they mysteriously reappeared! I copied them to the mac, formatted the drive and copied back. All running very happily now!

Cheers
