External Hard Drive Interfaces

I'm researching external HD's to buy. I think I'm going to buy an Iomega Black Series. But I don't know the difference between dual interface and triple interface. I would assume the triple has something extra to offer, but I don't know what. Anyone know the difference?

Also, if anyone has any recommendations for 160GB HD's, please let me know. I don't wanna spend money on soemthing that's going to crap out in a year.

dual port could be 2 firewire ports or 1 firewire 400MB port and 1 usb port 2.0

Triple interface is 1 Firewire 800 port and 1 Firewire 400 port and 1 USB 2.0 port thats what lacie drives say thats triple interface

If you buy a normal internal HD and a firewire/USB 2.0 box (which is all an external HD really is) you can choose a Seagate HD, which comes with a manufacturer's 5 year guarantee.

It's very easy to assemble and you are then not tied into getting whatever HD the box manufacturer (like Lacie etc) chose to put in there.

i bought a lacie 160 triple interface external HD over the weekend from the apple store for £120. I was chatting to a Mac Genius and he recommended them, that was enough convincing for me!

I have the 250 triple from lacie, and have been satisfied with it. I use it with my Powerbook, and the FW800 is nice for transferring video back and forth. I haven't done any comparisons with FW400 to see how much of a speed gain I get, but I'm happy I have the option. I think you'll like the 160.

and you can get a much faster RPM drive w/ firewire 800 and actually take advantage of the speeds... Avoid samsungs 160 and 200 gig drives and go with the 250, lower failure rate in its class although I probably biased my thoughts around a few batches I have been watching on etailer sites.
