I downloaded the Lion Recovery Disk onto my External hard drive (500GB Western Digital), and it ONLY works when I plug it in when I need to reinstall the Mac OSx Lion. But it does NOT work when I plug it in normally to use it as a storage drive.
What?!

A little help here?
Why isn't it detecting?
It works... but not detecting.
Same with Windows, it's not detecting the external hard drive.

Did you merely move the .Dmg file to the drive, or did you install it to that drive? If the latter, then it is likely that the drive will be unusable until formatted. If I'm not mistaken, the Lion Recovery Disk makes an invisible drive/partition that can only be accessed on boot.

Try to see if Disk Utility spots the drive.
