I have an hp laptop and I used the consolidate library option to move my itunes library to my external hard drive. Then, I deleted the original files off of my computer to free up some space. I have gone in and changed the itunes media folder location to the file holding all of the music on my hard drive. However, Itunes is not pulling the music from my hard drive back into itunes. when i open itunes it just shows that i have no music in there. Somebody please help.

I think you have to tell iTunes to use the new external library.
Editing the path in preferences is not enough.
There is a process explained here how to tell iTunes at start up which library to use.
You should only have to do this once.

http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/

See the section "iTunes Library and Backup".

Essentially, once you have created the library on the external drive, you need to hold down the shift key, then boot iTunes from the start > all programs > iTunes > iTunes.

You will then be prompted to navigate to where the new library exists.

I made the same mistake myself yesterday!
