external hard drive unreadable

im a new user of mac0s,my hard drive is working properly at windows but when i plug it in it says- the disk u inserted is not readable by this computer. if i need to reformat on the mac0s itself like everyone else is saying how would do that if the hard drive can’t be read. please help. Thanks

Use Disk Utility to erase the drive and reformat it. If you need to use it on both Mac and Windows then it should be formatted as ExFat.
