Ok so the unthinkable happened: My entire iTunes library was on an external drive and the drive failed. The good news is I am a longtime Apple Music user and I immediately quit iTunes the moment this happened.

How do I keep my Apple Music library as is without letting my home computer know that all the original files it was using have been lost? What have others done in this situation?

(x-posted to discussions.apple.com but it's crickets over there)

If their in the cloud, just create a new playlist elsewhere..

If their downloaded music, you'd have to re-download them again, but since their on Appe's serves, nothing will be lost.

I havan't been in this situation, because i'm always kept originals backup in more than one location. I just hope some of t albums/tracks that were matched and upgraded to better quality in some cases, are the same tracks uploaded

thanks I acknowledge it's a freak situation. Long story short, went to a fantastic data recovery and he was able to recover pretty much all my music!
