1 lacie USB 2.0 ext drive 500gig
mac osx 10.4.11

after doing a recent update on my software, my 500gig ext. drive has been randomly accessing itself for no apparent reason. No bit torrent, no browser, no appications running. The drive is a little noisy to start with, but when I have NO APPLICATIONS running, it's a "lighter" access sound that is happening, but when I have my browser open, it has a tendancy to REALLY GRIND out some access as if I was running a movie, copying GIGS of info or other high demand.

tried a repair, said it was okay.
my firewall is on.
tried a restart.
tried YASU to clear everything.

no dice.

is the drive dying?
can I have a virus?

There have been countless threads here and on other forums about this issue and I know I've been searching for a resolution since installing Leopard the day of release. I haven't found one. I hope 10.5.3 addresses the issue. :)
