external hard drives

Hi
I just bought 2 mini Max hard drives from Iomega . My plan was to use these to
back up my data - I am shooting digital and my hard drive on the powerbook is filling up
to try to free up internal hard drive space and ? store my photo library on the external hard drives.
it turns out these drives may not work so well linked(daisy chained) any ideas on how best to acheive my objectives?
I have an 80GB hard drive on my powerbook but that is getting stuffed full

What's wrong with daisy-chaining two firewire drives? I assume they *are* FW drives, not USB.

even if you're using USB, if they have a hub built in it should be fine. For archiving/storage i can't see daisy chaining being an issue. If you were dumping (large amounts of hi-res) video straight to them it might be.

I'd still be looking at a some form of backup either way (like burning your photos onto cd/dvd)

It is likely that two drive use more power than the PB can supply over the Firewire cable and he will be forced to use external power supplies.

if they won't run bus powered when daisy chained, why don't you get a 8 to 6 pin FireWire cable and hook one up to your FireWire 800 port? that is, assuming you're not on a 12".

if you don't have the free ports there's not much else to suggest, except using an external power supply or swapping out the two drives depending on what you need to access.
