Hey guys, i'm getting a stock 2 ghz macbook and upgrading the RAM and the hard drive from there, but i want to keep the stock hd to use as an external backup kind of a deal, or just something to store media on.

What kind of external hd case would you guys recommend? I've been looking around and getting pretty confused - some only support IDE drives, and SATA cases are harder to find?

What kind of interface recommended, FW/USB2?

Does USB power things like FW?

its just a common thing to ask that's why people don't wanna bother writing "use search". but to help u out, link pricegrabber can give u 2.5 inch enclosures. if you wanna keep it "mac-ish" go for the macally. only problem is it is USB and not firewire.

i suggest firewire (there is a difference and it's faster than usb2). i usually look on ebay.

I realize that a simple google search yields thousands of results, but most 2.5" drives seem to be IDE, and aren't macbook drives SATA? Does this matter at all?

That's what i'm confused on...
