There is no reason this hard drive will on work with your iBook. It is a good name brand too. But...This hard drive is specially designed for the Mac Mini to rest on top of it. You may be paying a premium for that feature, but I'm not sure.

FYI, LaCie brand external drives come highly recommended. (I like mine just fine.)

the Lacie d2 250 has both FW 400 and 800 as well as USB2.0. We use two with no problems.

There are a million threads about this, so I'll give you the short answer. Firewire is noticeably faster. But is is very nice to have USB incase you want to plug into a computer that doesn't have firewire (and most PCs don't). Most people here get hard drives that have both USB and Firewire.
