So, I finally solved my sleep/wake (manually set tcpkeepalive to 0) and external HD disconnect (stopped using WD elements enclosures...now using a dock) issues. However, now when the external drive wakes from sleep, the speed is 1/10th of typical (eg. Drops from 150MB/s to 15). Unmounting doesn’t solve the problem, but rebooting does.

Late 2020 iMac.
The Drive is connected via one of the Thunderbolt/Usb C ports

Always something, and always with every mac I own (4).

Any ideas?

thanks.

The drive and dock give you the same problems when used with different Macs?

That would indicate that it's either
a. the drive
or
b. the dock
... at least to me, it would.

Do you have a different DRIVE you could use to check the dock on the various computers?
Does the dock give you the same slowdown with more than one drive?
If so...
I'd try a different dock first.

it has actually now happened with both the dock, and an attached raid (500 MB/s to 250)
