external HD

I can't get a external HD to work in my powermac G5? I also need this to work in an older IMac, will there be any formatting problems? I know very little about Macs. I'm an IT guy at a college but we only have Windows except for the 2 macs we use for video editing. And up until I have never had to work on them

any help will be greatly appreciated.

Does the external drive need to access the windows too or only the macs??

preferably both. but i would be very happy with just the two macs. someone said to format it in FAT32, but the only option it gives me is NTFS?

You can format the drive as FAT32 on the Mac. Select the MS-DOS file system.

Format the drive on a Mac and use Disk Utility >> select the external Hdd>>erase >>select file format (MS-DOS) for windows/Mac compatible >> name the drive>>uncheck the OS9 drivers box (if only your using OSX/xp etc) >>erase disk

once you hit erase disk button it'll take 2mins to erase/format then the drive should show onto the desktop
