I've been using this WD Passport for quite some time and all of a sudden it stopped mounting and when I tried to repair(first aid) and mount via disk utility it failed.
Then I downloaded WD Drive Utilities and it decrees the drive but fails all the tests midway.

I've done the basic:
switching USB cables, ports and different macs and windows PC
launching terminal and tried the disk mount

"It's a partitioned drive and neither of them would mount.;;

Are there any other methods I could attempt? or should I get an enclosure or take it to a data recovery specialist?

Is this a 2.5" drive, or is it a 3.5" drive? (I'm guessing "2.5")

BE AWARE that some (many?) WD pre-packaged drives do not use standardized drive connections inside.

This means you MIGHT NOT be able to use another enclosure.

From what you said you've already tried, I'm going to GUESS that the drive has had either a hardware failure or the directory is totally messed up.

You should also realize that "data recovery" by an outside firm will be very VERY expensive. Many hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars.

You have to "ask yourself the question":
Is the stuff that's on that drive really, really worth that much to you?

What FORMAT was the drive in?
What were the partitions used for?
Hmmm.... In the second pic above, I see "backup".
If one or both of them were used for backups, I wouldn't waste much time or money on them.

REASON WHY:
Most "backups" are just that -- a second copy of stuff that already exists somewhere else. Just erase the backup and start a new one.

It's not worth paying $$$ to recover backed-up data that already exists somewhere else.

It's an older model by WD

this is the product.I tried opening the drive with the but failed.
The format was in FAT
Partitons were used for backups for an older mac and other half for movies and songs.

I agree with you it may not be worth the money since I can download or find out of them somewhere. It's kist that there are some pictures that I want to retrieve. ;(
