I am using an external HDD (1TB WD Elements) with my MacBook Pro 2016 15" with TouchBar.
This was no problem in the past.
Yesterday I updated to 10.12.3. When I now attach the external HDD (using Apple's official USB adapter), the whole system crashes. It either restarts automatically or I need to force a restart by holding the TouchID sensor.

Is there anyone with similar occurrences? This is 100% reproducible, I already filed a bug report at Apple.

Have you tried plugging it into a USB hub instead of directly into the Mac?

I updated yesterday and just tried an SSD and all was good except it didn't want to eject it the first time I connected. I forced ejected and tried several other times with no issues.
