Simple question - just want to confirm.
Have a 2012 1TB Mac Mini with a DAS 2TB RAID 5 connected to it.
Houses all our media as a Plex server, and is soon to be the canonical library for our Photos and iMovie.
I would like to add an additional layer of backup protection, that won't break the bank.
Backblaze etc. is unfortunately not an option with my slow upload speeds.
Question:
Will purchasing a WD RED 3/4TB HDD , and dropping it into one of those USB 3.0 Hdd enclosures, work for the purposes of a periodic TM backup?
As in, once every few months - plug in, run TM to backup, then remove and store the drive at a different location?
Not phased with speeds etc, can leave it on overnight etc.
I guess what I'm asking is if - given that I can pick up a WD Red for cheaper than going for the standard all-in-one external drives sold by Seagate/WD - and thus get more capacity, whether there is any drawback in using a RED inside a cheap enclosure, compared to the all-in-one?
