Hi folks

Bear with me on this; I'm not that tech savvy when it comes to stuff like this, sorry!

I've got a 2012 i7 Mac Mini (16GB) running El Capitan

I use an external Seagate HDD (3TB) partitioned into 2 parts (2TB for the TimeMacine and 1TB for back-ups/general storage etc)

Everything was fine yesterday, no issues at all and there hasn't been at any other time. The last TM back-up was just after 2100 last night; I put the computer to sleep as I normally do (ejecting the discs using Jettison), but I've come down this morning and the Mac was awake and running; turned the monitor on and the external HDD wasn't showing!

I've restarted the Mac and only the 'General' part of the external HDD is showing, not the TimeMachine part!

I've got another external HDD that I backed all my files up to last week as I normally do (I run my business from this Mac also) and this works fine, but looks like I've lost the TM back-ups, for now!

I've tried a different USB 3 cable, but that's not made any difference!

Plus, when the external HDD is connected, DiskUtility won't open, it just sticks...

Can anyone help/advise?

Thanks

Just to update this

I've attached the screenshot which shows my secondary Seagate HDD attached (iTunes back-up and Back-up in Finder & DiskUtility)

But as you can see, 'General storage' shows in Finder, but not on DiskUtility and this is one of the two partitions on that particular Seagate HDD (neither showing)!

Any further advice?

I've tried to get to DU via CMD-R but that doesn't find the HDD either!

Try this:

Download "Semulov" from this page:
http://www.kainjow.com

Put it into your apps or utilities folder (doesn't matter which one)

Launch Semulov. It will put an icon up on the menu bar, right side.

Click on the Semulov icon. It will show you "mounted" and "unmounted" volumes.

Do you see the name of the partition you're looking for in the "unmounted" list?

What happens if you select it from Semulov's menu?

Thanks for the advice

For some reason, it's no mounted! I've formatted it and have started to use it as the TimeMachine again

Fingers crossed it's the last of its hiccups!
