I've just ordered a 160GB WD My Passport Essential external hard drive, in order to install any new games onto that instead of my boot camp partition (which is running low). After thinking about this more, I would like to load everything onto the new external HDD, including Vista's system files, my documents and media etc.
I'm planning to format the dirve under NTFS, then mount it into the C: root directory and then copy and paste all my existing C: folders and files into this new HDD directory.
My question is about the registry. Although this would work in theory, moving pre-installed folders around could prove to be a disaster if the registry has written where system files and folders should be set.
I am really desparate for an answer on this before curiosity gets the better of me, and I go ahead and do it anyway. If my only last resort option is to have to load a fresh install, is there a way to load Vista and all it's files directly onto the external Hard drive?
