I have a 13" Macbook Pro 2017 version, no security chip. Initially I just connected with a Philips 32" 2K monitor (model BDM3270) via a usb-c to HDMI dongle, all good! Then I bought another Philips 32" 4K monitor (model 328P6VU) with USB-C docking capability, and connected with my Macbook Pro via the 2nd Thunderbolt port using a USB-C to USB-C cable(original cable came with monitor, able to pass through both power and data).

Both monitors worked well except 4K monitor goes blackout for 2 seconds everytime monitor/laptop waken up from sleep, it happens after monitor waken up 30-35mins. And 4k monitor works fine with my Windows PC via HDMI port, so shouldn't be monitor problem.

I've tried to reset SMC, didn't work. Also I've upgraded my MacOS from Mojave 10.14.5 to 10.14.6, didn't solve the problem either. Do I need to upgrade OS to latest Catalina to give it a try? or this is some problem can't be solved by software upgrade.

Please help! Thanks in advance!

After the "2 seconds", does it always COME BACK ON?

Have you tried any other cable/connection arrangements?

So long as it ALWAYS "comes back" after going black, if it's just 2 seconds, you may just have to "learn to live with it".

The alternative is to start experimenting with different cables, connection schemes, and ports.
You -might- find a combination that works.
Then again, it could become a wild goose chase that leads nowhere.

thanks mate! yeah, it always come back on and happens only once if you don't make your computer go to sleep. I've tried another new usb-c cable(usb 3.1) and also tried the other Thunderbolt port, didn't solve the problem. I've disconnected my 2K monitor, but didn't solve the problem either. Yeah, I guess I'll live with it for the moment and keep seeking the cure. ; )

just an update that I've tried another trick as suggested in another post in this forum to uncheck "Automatically adjust brightness", it doesn't work in my case.

And I start getting use to this 2 seconds blackout now... ... ?

I know this is a pain to review, but are there any messages in the Console that correspond with the blackouts that happen when running the system? (You would have to log the exact time of blackout down to the second and then go into the Console and see what events occurred during that period.)

thanks mate, I actually didn't know this Console can view all the activity logs. Will give it a try and post back here.

opened Console and didn't find some critical errors when display went blackout, just realised this log appeared every time when I wake up my laptop from sleep and also when it happened to go blackout for 2 seconds. still have no clue...
