Hi There,

I purchased a 2019 imac and didn't realize I would need a new cable to connect my external monitor. With my old computer. Is there another option other than the one apple sells that is vga to usb-c? I see several on amazon but not 100% sure which is the best to order.

What video inputs does your external monitor have?

If you monitor accepts VGA input then look for a USB-C to VGA adapter. There are numerous choices at Amazon. Apple's don't seem to work (and I think their USB-C to DisplayPort ones are awful too from what I've heard).

Anyone running a VGA monitor with a late iMac is in serious need of an upgrade.

Just for kicks, I attached my VGA monitor using the Apple adapter to my iMac Pro just now and it works fine. Of course, I immediately disconnected it and reattached it to my G4. Yikes!
