External Monitor Flickering on my new MBP

Hello guys! So i just got my new 16" MBP (Catalina) and for some reason whenever i connect my Dell monitor, my screen is flickering constantly

however, I don't really have this problem in my work laptop (15" Mojave) and I use the same dongle and everything. I already restarted my computer several times and tried to play around "automatic graphics switching" as ive seen online but no luck

Mine started with a slight flicker every five seconds for so when awaking from sleep. After a few minutes it would clear up.

Over a period of a week, it got worse, to the point of seriously alarming, even after cold booting the cheese grater.


The fix was to power off the monitor. Then power on. I did it by removing the plug.

It's the ol' turn-it-off-then-turn-it-on procedure, as valid today as it was in 1978.
