External monitor for iMac 2.16 ghz?

It's the 2.16 mhz model from the first half of 2007, the model just before the ones with the black frame around the monitor. Can it run an external in addition to the built in? Anything in specific I should look for? What kind of input do I need on the monitor?

I'm looking for just a decent 15" or 17", not expensive. Anybody have one they like and would recommend?
