I am trying to connect an external monitor (HP LA2306) to my MBP mid 2012 but for some reason I can't seem to do it. I tried using mini display port to display port cable, but my monitor is not connecting successfully to my MBP mid 2012 and just keep showing no signal. I dont also have the display arrangement settings on my MBP mid 2012. I need an external monitor for work, please help.

no display arrangement option

Wish I could help. I use a ext monitor on my mid 2012 MBP 15 with out issue.
Just plug in the monitor to DB9 to display port adapter and it pops right on.
There should be two mini display ports I am sure you tried both. Could be an issue with them.
You could try HDMI if you have a monitor that supports it.

The ext monitor is use is std PC monitor off an old PC.

Try another cable.

Try another connection scheme, such as:
Minidisplayport (Mac end) to DVI (display end).

What do you have the input on the display set to?
If it's to displayport, and if the display has an "auto" input selection, try "auto"...

It finally worked! I used thunderbolt mini display port dp to vga insetad. Thank you!
