iOS External Monitor Recommendations?

I've never tried finding an external monitor before - I've always stuck with Apple's All-In-One solutions (the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, eMac, and iMac) simply so I never had to look for a monitor before.

But it's occurring to me that I really want one or two. Here are the two scenarios:

1 - Documents are often a lot longer than they are wide. It'd require substantially less scrolling if I could just have a monitor which was a lot taller. I'd really like a vertical monitor (or one that rotates).

2 - Storyboards take up a lot of real estate. I need a freaking huge monitor. My 24" is feeling woefully tiny - can I get some kind of 10K monitor with 60" or something?

Here is a very inexpensive 4K monitor. I've been thinking about getting it for a while. Make sure that your computer can handle 4K before purchase though

That looks awesome! 39" and 4K should be great! Can I rotate it, too, thus satisfying both of my scenarios?

I don't see the benefit of 4k unless you need it. I prefer this display.

Pricey and it doesn't rotate. I want a lot of pixels so that when I'm looking at my storyboard, I can see the whole thing without having to zoom way out.

How well does the Seiki work as a monitor? Isn't it technically a TV? How is the frame rate? I used to use a Samsung TV as a monitor, and hated the fact that I had to turn it on and off manually. There was also a concern about an image being burned into the screen if displayed too long.

I'm not quite sure. The seiki is 60Hz but I'd bet most macs would only output to it at 30Hz. I've never personally used it. My 15" Retina MacBook Pro is from 2012 and doesn't support 4K output. My self built hackintosh with a GTX 760 probably would but I have been content using three 1080p monitors on it.

I’ve seriously considered one of Monoprice’s 27” IPS displays, 2560x1440 like the Apple 27” options:

A friend of mine got the one for $399, and during a sale with 10% off, so he got it delivered for < $400 total.

Monoprice also has a ‘5 dead pixel’ policy for full replacement. Apparently these panels are very high quality (some folks have suggested they source them from some of the same component suppliers as Apple).

There’s a version that’s about $80 more with some additional ports/hub built-in (currently showing backordered).

I am using a dell u2713h. Great 27 inch monitor, but even larger would be better for Xcode. Amazing resolution and colors though. Is rotable, also vertical stand, height adjustment etc.

I requested a Dell 24" rotatable monitor at work (24" is the max we're allowed). If I like it, I'll probably get something bigger in the same series for home.

It hasn't arrived yet. If it's not in my cubical by Monday I'm probably going to figure out what happened to my request since I made it over two weeks ago and they're supposed to be fulfilled within 2 business days...

Are you getting a rotatable monitor for use in the Xcode simulator? That would be awesome!

Great...now I have to get one

Does it have an accelerometer or some other system so that when you rotate it, it tells the computer to update to a new width x height resolution?
