I have a new SR macbook pro and have been running it with a 20 inch acer monitor, which is spectacular. The only problem is that when I lift the laptop screen to wake it up from sleep only the external wakes up and the computer monitor stays black. The only way I have found to fix it is to unplug the monitor, wake it up, and then plug it back in. Am I doing something wrong or does anyone have a solution?

You've been running it closed with an external monitor, correct? Try pressing the mouse or keyboard to wake it from sleep.

If you've been running it open, perhaps you should Sleep it by using the Apple menu instead of closing the lid.

first make sure you have your display preferences set to show the icon on the upper right of the taskbar. Then when you open your machine, click on the display icon and click "detect displays" and that should do the trick.
