What kind of power draw are you seeing from your various external enclosures, and are the M1s able to sleep them?

Im using the ORICO M2V01-C4 enclosure with my 4tb nvme with my M1 MBP. Chose this for guaranteed 40gbps link speed and decent passive cooling. In that respect it works well, great performance.

Seeing what appears to be a fairly consistent power draw at around 4w from it judging by istat menus total power estimate. This also persist into sleep and the unit feels warm. It's clear that its not sleeping when the Mac is.

Are you seeing similar things from other enclosures and ready-made solutions?

Just saw the date but I’ll answer anyways since it was bumped. My Thunderbolt drives remain warm, Always. I beleive it’s safe to assume it’s drawing something in the ballpark of what you’re seeing.

It works just fine, it is very fast and stable. It does get quite warm to the touch, but according to software that can read the SSD temp diode its fine. I've used it since november. Only issue is the power draw thing when the laptop sleeps.
