External Optical Drive Problem

I have a TDK 840G installed in an INOi DW560U USB enclosure. INOi claims Mac support (data sheet).

When I attach the external drive it works, except that iTunes does not pick up album info (title, track names...) when it is attached, either on the external or the internal drive. In order to pick up the metadata again the external drive has to be removed from the system.

Any tips on getting this to work?
