Yesterday I was using my iPhone as an iPod with the factory iPhone earbuds. It was acting strange because I couldn't turn the volume all the way up with the side buttons, only through the touch screen. Anyways, later that day while trying to watch a youtube video, there was no sound. I reset my iPhone, same thing, no sound when unlocking the phone, ipod or youtube.

Any ideas of what went wrong? I plugged in some earbuds and that works perfectly, but when removing there is no sound from the speaker. What makes this really weird is that when I get a phone call the speaker works fine.

Thanks in advance.

I just started having the same problem, I'm assuming the phone thinks we still have earbuds plugged in.

Yeah thats what i'm thinking too. I've been trying to plug and unplug the head phones repeaditly but no luck. I don't feel like driving to the apple store... its far.

I did a complete restore also, no luck with that either.

Mine did that a while back. I just blew into the headphone socket and it started working.

Mine does this a lot when I unplug it from the adapter in my car. The fix has always been to blow in to the headphone jack, plug in the adapter and then unplug it again. I've gotten into the habit of making sure my phone makes the lock-unlock sound before I leave my car.
In a pinch I have poked at the jack with a paper clip to get it to recognize the headphones are disconnected. This seems to be a very common problem. Hopefully the new model will be better at detecting this.
