I know this sounds stupid. Does anyone have a way to set-up an external SSD so it isn’t dangling if you’re moving your MacBook? Sometimes I’m getting a disconnect because if this. I’ve thought of a Velcro strip on the enclosure and display top but not sure if I’ll have heat issues with the screen. And, maybe safer, get a stand and when it’s used as a desktop have the enclosure mounted on the stand (of course this doesn’t solve the computer in the lap, or out on the go situation. Any ideas?

Nothing elaborate, MBP 14”, a couple of smallish NVMe Trebleet enclosures ( one TB, one USB C speed ), and USBC cables about 10-12” that came with the enclosures. The cables connect well, but if moved around too much or ‘dangled’ understandably can come loose ( maybe mostly at the enclosure connection - maybe some tape ;’?) Just trying to think of a solution where they are more anchored to the system and I don’t need to worry. Maybe some softer more flexible cables?, but they‘ll still be hanging if I move off the table.

And yes, wish I could afford 2TB of internal storage …

I have a "workaround" for you that might be worth trying.

There's a small, free utility called "Semulov". Get it here:
(Go to the right and download the file where it says "releases")

Semulov will "dismount" and "mount" external drives/volumes.

WHAT TO DO WITH THIS (and yes, I realize it takes a little effort):
- When you've going to "move" the MacBook with an external drive attached, open Semulov and DISMOUNT the drive from the desktop
- Move the laptop
- Now, go to the Semulov icon in the menu bar and RE-MOUNT the drive back to the desktop.

The idea is... you won't get an "accidental dismount" because you already used Semulov to manually dismount the drive.

Once you've moved the MacBook, Semulov ought to be able to find and re-mount the drive.

If you try this, let us know if it helps.

The screen panel doesn't generate that much heat, unless using it at full blast all time, so your solution seems fine. It's not like you plastered the entire surface with velcro.
