Hi All,

has anyone gotten this issue? My SSD keeps disconnecting after a Big Sur update. I've did both SMC and VRAM resets and still having issue.

Its connected via USB-C.

I had unmounting problems with my USB-C external hard drives and then could not get Time Machine to work even after updating to 11.2.2.
A reinstall via Recovery of 11.2.2 has resolved the issue.

Steve,

If I read your post correctly, the update failed but the complete reinstall made it whole?

Reason I ask is that on another thread, I explained my sound went away after the 11.2.2 update; the downgrade to 11.2.1 brought it back.

If I start feeling brave, maybe I should try the recovery route and go ahead to 11.2.2.

Maybe LOL

Tom

thanks for the help.

Its extremely annoying since my MacBook is my workstation and I use my SSD everyday for work.

Just updated tot 11.2.2 but it usually unmount when I start using the hard drive (updating software/overwriting files on the SSD)

Have the issue also, but includes HDD, so it is not limited to SSD.

After the update to 11.2.2 it hasn't been dismounting. goignto leave it on over night with a folder open on windows via parallel desktop as the ultimate test.

Im pretty pessimistic so if it doesnt unmount it'll be all the sweeter. lol

Yes, the update did not resolve my issue but it appears so far that the complete reinstall via Recovery Mode has.

Followup:

At Apple's request I reinstalled the 11.2.2 update from the App Store over the 11.2.1 downgrade I'd put in previously. The Headphone Port remained! No idea why. It has been three days since I did this, and the port is still there - it survived two nightly shutdowns and came back each morning no problem - so far.

I've been having the same issue with a Thunderbolt NVME drive (Nekteck, a rebranded Plugable). It was happening only from time to time, once every day or two. Since 11.2.3 it's happening over and over every minute and I had to unplug it.

My external SSD using a SATA enclosure connected via USB 3.2 has not had this issue at all.

Both are connected directly to Mac Mini 2018 Thunderbolt ports via USB-C. Neither one is connected to a hub or dock. Swapping ports makes no difference.

no unmount so far after updating to 11.2.2

ANNNNNNND its back.

extremely annoying since I keep alot of my work stuff on an SSD because its just easier incase I service it and data is lost or I can connect it to my gaming laptop to work.

But man its freaking annoying its definitely due to Big Sur. Had no problems before
