How come this M1 12.9 iPad Pro doesn’t recognise my external SSD? It is formated as exFAT which should work.

Is it because this external SSD doesn’t have it’s own power supply? If so, that is dumb because the iPad Pro is a portable device so you should be able to use portable external SSD.

What SSD? My M1 12.9 sees my Samsung T5 & T7 SSDs without additional power & as exFAT. Is it encrypted?

It’s an old one from WD, and it is not encrypted. Only this iPad cannot recognise it.

I remember my older WD drives had trouble with power draw with USB-A cables. Make sure you use shortest USB-C cable available.
