I have a 2013 27” iMac and a 2015 21.5” iMac both upgraded with 500GB SSDs (I opened up both machines and installed the SSD’s inside by removing the slow 1TB HDD and connecting the 500GB SSD to the same Sata port as the 1TB) running Windows 10 via Bootcamp.
Both iMacs load up Windows 10 in less than 10 seconds flat from the Option menu... really nice.
I decided to test how fast an external SSD running Windows 10 Bootcamp would be compared to the internally installed SSDs.
Windows 10 on the external SSD takes 25 seconds to load (USB 3.0 connection only) as both iMac’s don’t support Thunderbolt 3 (TB3)...
So using the same exact SSD externally to boot Windows 10 is 15 seconds slower than opening up the iMac and installing it internally inside...
Anyways seeing as I’m using the same SSD for everything it’s not the SSD speed that’s the issue - it’s just the connection (internal Sata connection vs external USB 3.0 connection) that’s the issue.
My question is this - using the same SSD can I make the external connection any faster than what it is now?
