Hi,
I have a M1 iMac. It is the 8Gb ram and 256Gb SSD iMac. I am ok with the RAM. I use Edge,Word and PowerPoint most of the time.
I won't make that error once again. I will buy a computer with 1TB at least.
I installed Ventura on a Samsung 980 pro 2TB SSD with 40Gbs Acasis enclosure. Is it normal that is lags sometimes? It freezes for a few seconds once in a while. I tried to enable TRIM. I tried the First Aid in Disk Utilities. There is still some lagging.
Is that normal? Is there something else I should know?

Thank you very much!

Why don't you boot from the internal drive?

I'm wondering if the 8gb of RAM is "clogging things up".
It's 8gb whether you boot from the internal drive or from an external one.

This is why I have previously posted repeatedly that...
For the m-series Macs,
16gb is "the new 8".

I second booting from the internal. That should eliminate any macOS-related lags you're experiencing. Other, file-access lags related to the external drive may still occur but only someone using that particular external SSD and/or the enclosure could relate their own observations.

You could then try using "symbolic links" in your user account pointing to folders on the external…folders that contain the biggest storage offenders.
