external usb hard drive

I have an external 500gb usb hard drive. If I use the usb cable can I use this drive on the ipad?

You mean through the camera connectivity kit. I'm going to say no but it would really depend on the hdd controller and how the ipad sees it.

Well I can plug in a SD card which would give me more storage, Can a USB Memory stick also be used like the SD card? It would of been nice to plug in an external hd.

Are you hoping to have more space for pictures? Looking at the info for the camera connection kit, the only supported file formats for transferring back and forth are images. I'd imagine a hard drive with images on it would probably look like a USB camera to the iPad.
