I have an external WD usb 3.0 drive I want to move inside my 2008 Mac Pro.
The drive is 3 tb, and my Mac should see this as 3tb. When I take the drive out of the enclosure, and remove the usb 3 interface card, the and connect it to my Mac through a usb drive dock, it only show 800 gb. I tried to format the drive through Windows first to get the 3tb, but alas, only shows 2tb. Can I simply put the drive in my Mac and format is as usual to get the full 3tb?

do you have any data you are worried about losing?

if not, wipe out the partitions, reformat and see what happens.

To ask an obvious question -- why haven't you just slid it into one of the Mac Pro's drive bays and let the MP house the whole process?

Even if your bays are all filled, it only takes a moment to replace what's in the sled with the new drive.
