extra mice or extra mouse??

Hi!

I've a question to do to all people with a macbook pro that plays games, at least once a week, chat every night and maybe carry it to de university.

I buy a macbook principally to programming, editing video and pics but once or twice a week I play games(if I've time, i do it once a day...).

I will play games at home or in my girlfriend's house, programming everywhere an editing video and pics at home.

I think about buying a mouse, I like the mouses for gamers like MX1000 (I've it for my PC) and I would like to buy another similar because they are very good for gaming buuuuut will I need it for using everywhere?

The question is that...

do I buy something similar to the MX1000 (Logitech G7, o MX Revolution), the better gaming the worse travelling??

or do I buy a little mice like VX Revolution, that's not very good for gaming but yes for travelling??

How often do you think you will be playing games whilst travelling? I would go with the MX1000. I have one for my PowerMac and I am getting another for my MacBook Pro. I "may" go for the mighty mouse bluetooth but from using the old pro mouse everytime I want to do a left click it becomes a right click as I have my fingers at the front of the mouse rather than either side! I just hope if I do get another MX1000 I dont get them confused!

I vote MX1000, fantastic mouse.

I'm not sure how great the MX900 would be for gaming, as I'm not a computer gamer, but I use that at home for design work. It's very similar to the MX1000. I'd say, if you've got a laptop, and you plan using the mouse anywhere but your home desk, get a bluetooth mouse, so you don't have to bring a dongle or, even worse, a huge base-station.

As I've probably said before, I prefer the VX to the MX1000 for all-round use. especially with a laptop. My guess is that you'll be using generally a lot more than gaming, and while the VX has some lag between a standby state and normal operation it's a very good mouse for general purpose mousing.

I certainly vote for MX 1000. It is indeed a great mouse.

I've the IR version though, not the bluetooth but it works well.

Btw, i've MX 1000 combo with logitech dinovo keyboard and it looks very nice

I have the MX1000/diNovo Combo as well and I can tell you it is not good for games. (I love it, otherwise) But every now and then it just "spazzes" out and I have to turn it off and reconnect to get functionality back.

I've had occassions where it behaves as though a key is stuck and mouse gets locked as well. imagine strafing until you get stuck against a wall with your weapon pointed at the sky while some ******* knife kills you in Counterstrike. You can try to explain while everyone is laughing at you, but no one believes you. Sorry, this is a painful topic for me.

I too play CS sometimes but MX 1000 doesn't give me lag problem. Only complain is the dinovo keyboard ctrl key which is a bit hard to press.

Is the MX1000 really that good for gaming? I previously had a wireless mouse and I found it to be not as responsive as a wired one, now I have an MX518 and I find it to be perfect, although doesn't have 10000 buttons like the mx1000 or even laser tracking, but it's precise enough for the gaming I do. I used to be a heavy gamer and this mouse did it for me (while my old microsoft wireless mouse got thrown on my driveway by me - no joke, then somebody must've kicked it away or stolen it as it was no longer there 2 hours later).

I carry a mouse with my MBP everywere i go, if i need it i use it and if i dont need it it stays in the bag. If you have enough space for a big mouse you will have enough space for a small one. I never liked the feel for small mice, maybe its because i have bog hands but never got used to them.

f1400 i agree with you completely. mx1000 (& any other wireless i've tried) is not as responsive as the wired mouse (laser tracking or not). Logitech really would like us to think otherwise with the marketing on their new wireless gaming mice that are higher bandwidth. But the bottom line is that there is a "hop" between the mouse and receiver and no matter how fast the mouse data reaches the receiver, there is additional overhead and processing (filtering & transcoding i would guess) required by the receiver.

The point of the receiver is to take what it gets from the wireless mouse and convert it into data the Windows/Mac OS would expect to receive from an ordinary wired mouse. Then that data must be processed by the OS and passed on to the game.

There is latency.
