I am about to order a cable to add a second hard drive. A video I watched said add it behind the optical drive and route the cables through the notches. One end of the cable attaches to the board top and the other to the drive.

1) I don't want to completely take out the logic board. can I just tilt it a little?

2) After installation and formatting of the drive, what is the best way to copy the contents of the current 1TB drive to the SSD?

3) If the OS is patched via a patcher tool does this make a difference?

4) can you add a recovery partition to a patched OS hard drive?

Just to recap, I wanna add a cheap sad to the iMac, make it the boot drive, and use the current drive for backups and such. Any wisdom is welcome.

That's what I did. I tilted the logic board as little as possible, just enough to plug in the data and power cables. Everything has worked fine since.

1. You can but it's not easy. The easiest way is to put a sata cable and get Y power splitter. If you have big paws, it will be very tough.
2. Super Duper works well.
3. I cloned my drive with a patched OS with Super Duper and it worked.
4. Dunno.

Good luck!
