I've embarked on a mission I'm determined not to fail, which is to do a clean restore of iPhone and then restore only my SMS history and any MMS images as well. My current backup has been chugging along since the original iPhone days and I'm convinced it has something wrong with it because various functions on the phone are unreliable and have been for some time despite restores.
I've managed to nearly do it using iBackupBot by extracting Library/SMS/sms.db and importing it to the clean backup after a restore, but the crucial problem is that this only imports the text, not attachments in messages. I'm a perfectionist and I instantly restored back to my original (which I suspect corrupt in someway) backup out of disgust for seeing broken images in my text histories
But I really like the idea of a vanilla install with just my full SMS history in tact, starting from scratch so to speak but with all my messages.
I'm finding it difficult to figure out how to use iBackupBot to restore the MMS images that appear to all be under Library/SMS/Attachments/* and Library/SMS/Parts/*. Does anyone have any knowledge about whether it's even possible? I seem to be able to export the files to the computer but importing them into the clean backup doesn't seem to be possible.
If not, am I going down the wrong route using iBackupBot? Is there better software/an easier method? To clarify I'd rather not jailbreak my device since I got so far yesterday without having to, I'd just like to think there is some clever hack to extract only Library/SMS/* files and import to a new clean backup (to then restore again to the phone).
