Extreme Apple prices in New Zealand

For all you USA consumers planning your strategic Apple purchases, spare a thought for those in more distant lands. The 2GHz white macbook in New Zealand is NZ$2839 (US$1822) excluding freight and including 12.5% local tax. This compares to US$1299 delivered in the states.That's a 40% premium! :mad: :mad:


Is anyone visiting Christchurch, New Zealand in the next few months from the states? :D
 
You also need to pay the "I live in New Zealand" tax.....you know.......for being a Kiwi. ;)

I really don't know why they charge you a different price. Even after taking the 12.5% tax into consideration, you're still overpaying by quite a bit.
Australians pay around $2500 NZD for their MacBooks.
 
Yeah I'd have to say the prices of Apple hardware in NZ are pretty insane. I'm planning on buying a new MBP when they start shipping with the Merom chips and hoping the price isn't going to get any higher than what it already is. (almost $6000 NZD for current 17" MBP :()

I have been wondering though if it would be possible for someone from NZ to order products from the Australian online store with an NZ credit card and have them shipped to an NZ address to get them a bit cheaper... anyone know if we're able to do that?

Whats the issues between the Ausies and the Kiwis? I know what the issues between us and you guys are... :D

WE also have bloated prices... for the same model MB we would pay $1700:(

And Lollypop, I've got no issues with the Sud Efricans but the Kiwis...now that's another story... :D ;)
 
We pay a decent amount. For a 2.0GHz white we pay $1449 + 14% sales tax. The Canadian dollar right now is approx 89*¢ US. So it would calculate to $1470US. Don't know how that compares to the US. It looks relatively cheap though.
 
So what you're saying is I should bring my macs with me

I'm in the process of emigrating to NZ (well, re-emigrating actually as my parents moved there when I was a kid but the buggers moved back to the UK and really spoiled my fun :( ) and have a number of Macs. I was debating whether I should buy a Mac Pro before I go or just wait and buy one once I am settled. Looking like I might be better off picking one up here. Mind you, I paid £2000 for my MBP 2Ghz with 2GB of RAM but that was when they first came out which at current exchange rates put the machine a shade under NZ$6000 :eek:

The current conversion for the white MB 2.0Ghz is just under NZ$2700 including the 17.5% VAT so it does look like you are getting the stinky end of the stick. Of course, if you could buy one in the US you would save a bomb as you don't need the '£' key :cool:

Just pop over the "Dutch" - that's Kiwi for "Ditch" and buy your Macs here.

Stock White 2.0GHz MacBook = A$2099 inc. GST = £850 (Au store)
Stock White 2.0GHz MacBook = £899 inc. VAT (UK store)

So we pay less than you guys, not often that happens...

Top country, and you don't get picked on by the Poms for being Welsh, you only get picked on by us for being a Kiwi.

On "Billy Connolly's World Tour of New Zealand" he commented on some graffiti in Wellington (sadly not there any more) that said "You can always tell an Australian, but you can't tell him much". I like that :) Guess I'll always be a Kiwi at heart even if I sound like a Pom (elocution lessons donchaknowoldboy).

Went to NZ on holiday this year, did the Kawarau Bridge Bungy jump near Queenstown. Nothing quite like it. Anyway, convinced the wife and I that NZ was the place to be.

Oz isn't too far so it is feasible to buy stuff and bring it back but surely you will get nailed for import duty unless you ditch all the boxes etc and claim you had it all the time? Certainly happens in the UK.

Not going to work with a Mac Pro though is it? "Yes Mr Customs Officer, I travel everywhere with my Mac Pro......."

Nah, better buy one here while I still can.

Just affect a Kiwi accent, wrap a sheepskin around it and say it's your girlfriend.
