Yes, it's hard for me to understand it too.:)

The burn-in appears first on the iphone, only after 17 hours, but it does not seem to get much worse over time. The type of burn is different from the Note 8 and the Galaxy S7. In them, where the clear area of the static image was for a long time, the effect produces a dark background. However that same clear area produces a clear background on the iphone X.

Final burn-in comparision (image with more contrast to appreciate it better):

Someone in the comments seems to say that is how the software burn-in mitigation works:

The brightness of the screen pixels is reduced to 80% of the maximum they are capable of. Then the software detects the pixels that have more hours of life and increases their percentage of brightness (since they were at 80% we have a margin of 20% up to 100%) so that the burn is not shown.

I do not understand it much and I don´t know if it works like this guy says. Maybe someone who knows more about the subject can draw conclusions and explain it better.

Here we go again with the burn in hysteria. I don't know why people are even bothering to do test.

The average user will not experience burn ins with an OLED/AMOLED display.

I've been using samsung OLED phones since 2011. During that time I've had owned 8 different galaxy/note devices. Not one of them suffered from burn ins and I'm a heavy user.

The display on iPhone X is no different. Burn ins will. Not be an issue for most users. Of course there are defective devices but burn ins is a thing of the past on OLED phones.

No one is going to have the same image up on their phone for 10+ hours straight.

People just need to enjoy their damn iphone x.

Maybe this extreme test makes someone forget about burn-in and enjoy his phone again. You never know...

The test is notoriously inaccurate. What a waste of money & time! He should have adjusted the brightness of the phones all the same. iPhone X shows 634 nits at 100% full screen white while Galaxy Note 8 shows only 423 nits at 100% full screen white. That's an example of Garbage in Garbage out.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but I had Notes 2 through 4 and all of them had burn in issues. The Note 3 being the worst. On all phones after about a year or so, the status bar was always there. Watch a video in landscape and the bar ran up the side, very annoying. I had 3 Verizon replacements (Asurion) on the Note 3 before I got one without the same issue. Now with Apple, I'm quite sure they will have worked out the bugs and as the technology evolves burn in should be negligible.

I love how people think their experience is common and true for everyone else.
My pal owns a galaxy s5 and it’s about 2 years old and yes he has burn ins from using google maps navigation.
He‘s a technician and drives across Germany during the weeks using navigation.

All I know is that I had a Note 8 before my iPhone X and I got horrible burn in from using the Waze app. For those of you who use it and know the app, the speedometer was burnt in, the little report an incident icon was there and the entire bottom dock. I used Waze everytime I drove, mainly for reports of accidents, traffic and police. I don't drive for Uber or anything like that where I would have it running excessively. And for those reasons I have yet to use it with my iPhone X. It sucks, I really liked that app. If they could find a way to have the icons and dock move a little every so often I would download and use it again in a heartbeat.

What's hysterical about his post? It's just an attempt to compare an attribute across different OLED screens.

Who has their phone sitting with a static image on it for that long? Why is this important?

An Uber/Via driver for example often keeps their smartphone or tablet on navigation constantly. Or, anyone who uses a smartphone for deliveries where they are constantly logged into one app. That's not the majority of users but a lot of people have jobs like that.

Still not a static image, and certainly not for 17 hours.

I'm still kinda scared to use it(Waze) with my iPhone X. I'm not sure about a warranty replacement with Samsung. One would think they would replace it but I never tried. I ended up selling it (at a big loss because of the burn in) to use the money to purchase my iPhone.
