In June, when iOS 5 and iCloud was announced, I jumped on board at once. I used my Apple ID to sign up for iCloud Beta.
At that time, it gave me a @me address that I could not use (since it's a MobileMe address).
Now that iCloud is live, I tried signing into iCloud, iTunes, App Store, etc. using the @me address.
Apparently, it's eponymous to my old Apple ID!
My Apple ID has one and only one email registered to it (a Gmail address). Apple said that these two accounts are supposed to be separate accounts that are unable to merge, but here I am.
I'm currently trying to switch my primary email address from the Gmail to the @me address. Obviously it's failing, since it recognizes the address as a MobileMe address instead of iCloud. I can't make a new account using the @me address; the system says that MobileMe users already have an Apple ID registered to their @me address. But when I log on using my @me address, I go back to the Gmail address.
So I contacted support about this today. Apparently, they got really confused as well, thinking that the @me address was a MobileMe address. Quite rudely, when I mentioned that it's an iCloud address, they told me to go to the MobileMe/iCloud transition department. Obviously this guy doesn't know what's going on, or just is trying to get rid of me.
They also said that merging is not possible, since it's 2 different accounts. If I created a new Apple ID using a @me address (which the system says is impossible), then the purchase history would not be transferred. Very, very confused...
Can anyone help me out? Thanks.
