When I'm rendering at least 3 projects in compressor, all 12 cores and 12 virtual cores are engaged. The clock speed will slowly go down until it reaches 1.4ghz.

I'm wondering if I can cool the computer down enough, will it be able to maintain a higher clock speed?

Is the heatsink clean?

You may try Macs Fan Control to set a higher fan speed to lower the CPU temperature.

If the Mac is from 2013, and still have Apple care, may be you can ask them if they can re-do the thermal paste for you.

Apple sucks at cooling solutions.
Edit, well, marketing demands quiet devices.

Get the twelve south stand to put the nMP sideways, then point a fan at what would normally be the bottom:

Then use SMC fan control to crank up the built in nMP fan

This combo will both dramatically cool down the nMP and maintain higher GHz performance
