EDIT: I don't see a way to close the thread or delete it but want to say that the issue is apparently solved, thanks to the great help here. I'm pretty sure that the vet's phone "butt dialed". I don't know why that didn't even occur to me or to the receptionist who reported the incident to me. Anyway, all is well. Thanks to all who helped!!

This is so crazy that I doubt you will even believe me! Here is what happened:

Today I was at my vet's office today. When I was checking out, one of the receptionists came up to me and said this:

"I just wanted you to know that I answered our office phone [landline] while you were in with the vet and no one appeared to be on the other end. I then heard someone talking and realized that it was you in the exam room, talking to the vet. I could hear your conversation."

My phone had been in my tote and I was wearing my Apple Watch. I checked my Recents on both my phone and watch and there was not a call, even an accidental one, to the vet from my phone or watch.

Does anyone know what in the world happened???

She didn't have my phone... her office phone rang and she answered it ... a landline. She said that she said "hello" but no one was there .... Then she heard me and the vet talking! She heard us through her phone ... we were in a room with a closed door so she couldn't hear us any other way. My phone was on and in my tote bag.

Perhaps another phone that was in the room?

There was no phone in the room the vet and I were in. It just seems totally impossible... and especially with no call on my Recents. It is unnerving to say the least!!

Another phone as in perhaps one that the vet had?
That's interesting ... I hadn't thought of that .... bless his heart ... he uses a flip phone but that's a good possibility!!!

Did you check the receptionist’s phone(landline) to see what number was listed on the caller id? Would clear up where the call originated from..
I'm not sure they have caller ID but I will check. Thanks!

You phone was on and it rang the vets office or it’s the twilight zone.

Ha ha!!My phone was on but was deep inside my tote bag and my "Recents" did not show there was a call. Checked Apple Watch "Recents" and not there either. I'm beginning to think as C DM suggested above that maybe it was the vet's phone that maybe "butt dialed" ?
