Extrenal hard drive view. different than when closed

Using 2017 Mac 27"

My external hard drive opens up with not all folders showing.

I have the folders tagged for different purposes , some are blue ( documents ) some are yellow ( photo files ).

So if I sort it by flags then close it and reopen it the yellows are showing on the right hand edge that there are more folders to show as it says SHOW ALL. I was in this SHOW ALL view when I closed it.

Why doesn't it recognise my previous viewing preference when it is re opened? Is there a setting that I am missing?
