so, i just bought an mac mini intel core solo to use as a DVR for TV. i was going to buy an el gato eye TV 200 but saw the myTV.PVR at compUSA for half the price. So i bought the myTV.PVR and it seems to work ok. but i was wondering if the eye TV 200 would be any better.

i wish i could try both. i can 'try' the myTV b/c i can return it to compUSA at no charge. but the only place i can find the el gato is at the apple store. and if i try it then return it i would have a $30 re stocking fee.

but yeah, what people think.

a question i have about the el gato is if the TV has to be playing to record.

also, if i set it up to schedule a recording does the application have to be open, or will it record on its own in the background?

the myTV.PVR program has to be running all the time to record. if i remote connect i know the TV video will make the connection very difficult.

thanks

hmm. . . also. . . the myTV.PVR seems to encode in either MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 while MPEG-2 is higher quality it seems that Quicktime wont play it. unless maybe i have a plug in for $20. . . does MPEG-2 work with Quicktime Pro?
