very interesting -- if only it were a little cheaper -- im a poor college student, but it seems to be cheaper than buying a new nice TV...

Im confused about these digital signals, can someone help explain it to me... Will i get some digital channels? or do i have to subscribe to them? Can i pick digital channels up through the air seeing as how i live in a city? Thanks!

The hybrid will only receive analog (standard definition) TV signals over cable, but, with an additional HDTV antenna (not included), you can receive free over-the-air digital TV available in most areas.

I have one, and you need to switch between the HDTV antenna and cable - you can't have both connected at once.

Note that the hybrid has pretty significant CPU requirements when recording standard TV (but actually uses less recording HDTV because it doesn't compress the signal).

It is also for digital signal. (That is the main reason I got it.)

Watch digital terrestrial television (DTT, or Freeview) as well as analog TV on your Mac.

Have you used yours for transferring VHS to DVD at all? It says it can not do it, but I can't imagine why not...

Man, I like it but why can't they come up with a totally universal one? Doesn't make sense for me to get one and then in a year take it back home and have it useless again.

Watcha mean? This should be good for years. Digital TV is not going to be fully adopted until 2009 anyhow.

Next to nothing.

You can probably get a nice tabletop HDTV antenna at Walmart for 10-15 bucks

nah, a good one will be around $50. i have a phillips that i got from circuit city, and i get great signal

does it need to be near a window, or can i have it sitting on my desk... Im in a dorm, with concrete walls, and theres a window on the other side of my dormroom, but i have the non windowed side... Im surrounded by concrete... Will i still get reception, is it like a radio?

There is no way any of us can answer that question for you... There are way to many factors...

All you can do it try it...

It is just like bunny ears... You have to find just the right spot...

But you can take an educated guess... I mean like an FM radio will work here... but im sure satellite radio reciever wouldn't...
