I installed Public Beta 1 on both my iPhone 6s and my iPad Pro over the weekend. While my iPad Pro completed scanning my photo library for faces overnight, my iPhone seems to be stuck halfway. There is no indication in the People album that the scan is still taking place (such an indication was there for a while, but no longer), but the number of photos attached to each person is far lower than on my iPad.

Does anyone know if there's a way to restart the process? Either from where it is now, or from scratch? Or if there's even a way to tell if my phone even KNOWS that it still has a job to do?

Can you just turn this feature off?

Just wondering because I haven't ever been a fan of this feature.

I'm having the same problem after installing Public Beta 2 on my 6s+. Did you ever get it working?

Nope, it's still sitting where it was before. No progress indicator to be seen. It seems to think it's work is done. But as I said, on my iPad... working perfectly.

I'm fine with it not working for now -- it's a beta. These things happen. My concern is that, if Photos thinks it's done scanning for faces, even when the final version of iOS 10 comes out in the Fall, it'll STILL sit there happily, never completing the scan. And that there won't be any user-facing way to refresh the scan or flush the old data and start again (short of deleting all my photos).

An iTunes sync then hard reset might cause it to reindex. I'd wait a couple days though.

This is what mine is doing.

I wish I was getting that amount of feedback. Mine is presenting me with the finished view of the People album, as if it IS finished. No progress indicator to be seen.

I think it just takes forever... My iPhone was plugged overnight and also a good part of the day and it is still at ~2800 on 4000 pictures. Sometimes the count seems to be stuck on the same number for hours.

Hopefully Apple will fix this in later releases.

And now, imagine they will have to sync this train wreck with other devices.

I admire Apple's determination to do everything on-device for security, but this is way complicated. They got absolutely nothing on google photos.

Dev Beta 1 took three days to do my ~4500 photo library and was constantly stalling. Dev Beta 4 had it done in less than one night. Go with a newer version.

I'm on current public beta, and it's only gotten me this far. Thing switching over to the dev beta would make a difference?
