Got an iPhone X each for my Mom and Dad this Christmas and I helped set them up for both of them. I noticed that on my Dad’s X, we are both able to unlock the phone using Face ID. Do you think this is a hardware issue? Or just a software related issue as I’ve been staring at his phone quite a while (after he set up Face ID) since I’m downloading and setting up all his apps at least during the initial phase.

No such issue with my Mom’s phone even though I’ve spent the same amount of time looking at it as well.

My Dad has not been able to unlock my X with his face and I’ve had mine since launch day. I’ve also had him reset Face ID and set it up again. Problem still persists.

Also, I have a beard and he does not and he’s like 68 and I 36. :)

Not sure exactly what having a bear has to do with your ability to unlock his iPhone. :D

If you've been entering his passcode and you look similar enough to be above the threshold, which would not be unusual with father/son, then it's probably been updating its data with your features. Perhaps get Dad to reset Face ID when you've finished setting things up.

But he did it already?
