I know all the talk lately is about Face ID working while one is wearing face masks. But has anyone else noticed that Face ID seems to take longer to react since iOS 14? I find this to be the case on both my iPhone 11 and 12.9-inch 2020 iPad Pro. Face recognition used to be very fast. But, these days, I can type in my access code well before the device recognizes me. I am doing nothing different: Same light levels, location, facial hair, etc.

Have you tried to erase and redo FaceID or enter an alternate appearance? The only inconveinence is ApplePay needs to be setup again. As far as FaceID working while wearing a mask, I've never had that happen once. It always asks for my passcode

FaceID was/never designed by Apple to work with a facemask. Some have had periodic success getting it to work, but nothing on a consistent basis.

Yeah, my experience is like yours. I never wear a mask while using Face ID. The slowness I'm talking about is just under normal circumstances.

I haven’t noticed any delay. If it’s milliseconds I wouldn’t anyway. As far as face recognition goes, I’ve been able to get it to work by pulling down my mask far enough to expose my nose. I don’t need to do this though because my Apple Watch works perfectly for Apple Pay and Reminders(for shopping lists), which are pretty much the only reasons I need my phone when I’m out and about. I don’t consider it a big inconvenience to unlock with my passcodes when I need to.
